If you’re a Steve Prefontaine fan, you should visit Hendrick’s Park, which is known for its gardens and memorial to Prefontaine, known as “Pre’s Rock.” Not only does living in Eugene mean being close to the mountains, but you will also be about 50 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The town of Florence, Oregon, is on the coast, about 1.5 hours from Eugene. Florence is full of little shops and restaurants for you to enjoy.

Another great reason to live or move to Eugene is the excellent public school system. The 4J district serves most of the city’s 16,500 students. The district has 18 elementary schools, seven middle schools, and four high schools. Eugene offers a “school of choice” policy where parents can choose which school they would like their children to attend.

If you are a biker or runner, you are moving to the right place. Eugene has three of Oregon’s official scenic bikeways. Eugene’s love for biking started in the 1970s when the city created biking and running trails all over the city, making it one of the most bikeable cities in the United States. For runners, Eugene is known as “Track Town, USA.” The Track and Field World Championships were held here in the summer of 2022. Eugene Saturday Market

The market is open every Saturday from April to mid-November, rain or shine. The weekend before Thanksgiving the Market opens its Holiday Market which runs every weekend through Christmas Eve at the Lane County Fairgrounds. 

Springfield

Springfield is Eugene’s sister city and is across the highway that divides them. This town is where “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening drew his inspiration. Even a mural in downtown Springfield plays homage to the long-running television show.
